  • Course Overview

    This course equips you with all you need to know to finalize your journal article to the highest possible standard, in order to maximize your chances of publication. It also supplies helpful resources and supporting sites which could assist you with your submission.

    Learning Outcomes

    This course will help you to:

    1. Understand the requirements and submission guidelines and apply these to your article, meeting the editor’s expectations
    2. Recognize your responsibilities as an author and how to carry these out while preparing a manuscript for submission
    3. Acknowledge and comply with key ethical standards when writing and submitting a journal article
    4. Take the necessary steps to ensure all documents and paperwork are provided in accordance with ethical guidelines
    5. Identify the final submission stages to assemble your article and any additional documents ready for submission


    From time to time, we will refer to SAGE’s own specific publishing practices so that we can give you the most specific and practical guidance possible. However, these processes will likely be applicable to other journal publishers. If in doubt, always check their guidelines.

    • Pre-Course Self Assessment

      • Module One: Preparing Your Paper for Submission

        This module will help you to:

        1. Understand the requirements of submission guidelines and apply these to your final draft
        2. Recognize your responsibilities as an author and how to carry these out to prepare your manuscript for submission
      • Module Two: Publication Ethics Considerations

        This module will help you to:

        1. Acknowledge and comply with key ethical standards when writing and submitting a journal article
        2. Take the necessary steps to ensure all documents and paperwork are provided in accordance with ethical guidelines
      • Module Three: The Final Steps to Submission

        This module will help you to:

        1. Finalize your article to meet the editor’s expectations
        2. Identify the final submission stages order to assemble you article and any additional documents ready for submission
      • Post-Course Self Assessment

        Now you’ve completed the course, spend a few moments reflecting on where your familiarity with the topics and your confidence skills levels are at now.

If you didn't do the Pre-Course Self Assessment before starting the course, please go to the top of the page and reflect on your familiarity with the topic and your level of skills confidence before you started the course.

          Completing all modules (plus the pre and post-course assessments) will unlock the course certificate, which you can then download here. Your course certificate will only be made available once you have completed all these sections.
